About the game

A free word game that falls like Tetris

wordoverflows is a free, browser-based word game that blends the falling-block action of Tetris with the brain-teasing fun of word puzzles. Letters rain down a grid, and your job is to tap them — whether they are still falling or already stacked — to spell words and burst them before a column reaches the top. There is nothing to download and no account to create: open the page and you are playing in seconds, on your phone, tablet, or computer.

Unlike a crossword or a word search, wordoverflows is a real-time game. The longer you last, the faster the tiles fall, so you have to think quickly, spot words on the fly, and keep the board under control. Every valid word you clear scores points, and clearing words back-to-back chains a combo multiplier for an even bigger score.

What makes wordoverflows different

  • Daily Challenge — everyone gets the same board each day, so you can compare scores with friends.
  • Daily mystery word — a hidden bonus word, the same for every player, worth a bonus when you find it.
  • Power-ups — earn Thor’s Hammer and Time Freeze by scoring, then spend them to smash a cluster of tiles or stop the clock for 30 seconds.
  • Combos — clear words back-to-back to multiply your points.
  • Endless mode — start a fresh, random board any time you want a quick game.
  • Free and private — no sign-up, no download; your best score stays on your own device.

How to play in a nutshell

Tap letters in order to spell a word, press Submit to burst them, and let the tiles above fall into the gaps. Keep the columns low, chain quick clears for combos, and use a power-up when the board gets dangerous. Frequently asked questions

Is wordoverflows free to play?

Yes. wordoverflows is completely free, with no account, no download, and no payment required. Open the page in any modern browser and you can start playing straight away.

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. There is no sign-up, login, or app to install. The game runs entirely in your web browser on phones, tablets, and computers.

How do you play wordoverflows?

Letters fall down a grid. Tap them — whether they are still falling or already stacked — in order to spell a word, then press Submit to burst those tiles. Words must be at least three letters and in the dictionary. Clear words to keep the board from stacking to the top.

What is the Daily Challenge?

The Daily Challenge gives every player the same board on a given day, so you can compare your score with friends. Each day also hides a mystery word — the same one for everyone — that awards a bonus when you spell it.

What are the power-ups?

As you score, a power gauge fills up. When it is full you can spend it on one of two power-ups: Thor’s Hammer, which smashes a connected cluster of settled tiles, or Time Freeze, which stops the falling tiles for 30 seconds so you can find words calmly.

Which words are allowed?

Any real English word of three or more letters that appears in the game’s dictionary. The dictionary is built from a comprehensive, modern word list, so common and uncommon words both count. Proper nouns (names and places) are not accepted.

Does wordoverflows work on mobile?

Yes. The game is designed mobile-first and plays comfortably one-handed on a phone, while also working on tablets and desktop browsers.

How is my score saved?

Your best score and daily streak are stored locally in your own browser, not on a server. There is no account, so clearing your browser’s site data will reset them.
